While I don't like people damaging stuff that will be forcefully fixed partly by the funds in my wallet, neither do I like a government keeping too many secrets. |

I might add that that the ones who caused damage to the so called spy base actually did so within the law as a jury found them NOT GUILTY of the charge laid. The Govt on the other hand seek to change the law so that the defence used in that case can't be used again. |

One lot of protesters say the base is some sort of weapons coordination that is terrorising poor little Iraqi's. if it WAS doing anything about Iraq then it was probably tracking SCUD launches, but why bother with Iraq/iran and that lot from NZ? the USAF and the US Navy both have perfectly capable AWACS A/C much more capable than some measly sat link. If these goings on inside this secretive sat station are that bad why doesn't Mr Green pull his finger out and tell everyone so we can all be revolted by... the weather channel, being rebroadcast to alaska :p I have no idea what goes on in there, if its so shocking, pray, do tell us but if its all a bunch of hot air, go (insert witty hot air joke here) My honest opinion is just as corrupt as everyone elses. Hmm, Most NZ'ers eh? what about those who do not of have a legal status as a NZer? that leaves 3.5 million :devil |

Freedoms we take for granted today were only gained in the past by protesters raising issues and gaining popular support. For example, universal suffrage, abolition of slavery, abolition of lawful racism, homosexual law reform, legalisation of prostitution etc |

Freedoms we take for granted today were only gained in the past by protesters raising issues and gaining popular support. For example, universal suffrage, abolition of slavery, abolition of lawful racism, homosexual law reform, legalisation of prostitution etc Well said. We should defend the right of people to protest if we want to be a free country, albeit that if they damage a building they should pay for the damage. In this particular case I have no idea what the base is actually used for, but if it is used by the US to collect information on people like terrorists, then I'm absolutely all for it. The rights we have to say what we want were hard fought for, suggesting we lock people up for and toss away the key for expressing their opinion, is what we should be fighting against. |
