| 1172885 | 2011-02-01 03:22:00 | 2.2.1 is the current version of Android. It is possible to upgrade, but it's not an easy path.... It doesn't look difficult if you use the Sony Ericsson Update Service. Am I just being naive? I think they have v2.11 on their site. They certainly don't have v2.2 PS the v2.11.1.9 that I am seeing on the SE Update Service (which is for DeSade's phone) may be the version number for the update application - it may not have anything to do with the version of Android. However, all mini Pro phones are now being sold with v2.1. |

Am I just being naive?2.2.1 is somewhat out of date - the base for 2.1 is over a year old. The X10 family of phones will not be officially upgraded beyond 2.1 (see here (www.engadget.com)) - so as noted above, you can't get it via the usual upgrade channels, and will therefore need to root your phone to get it. |

That's as may be Erayd. However, my response to DeSade was simply that he/she should update to the latest version supplied by SE if the phone still has the original v1.6 software, and do it through the SE Update Service for which I gave the url. I have used their update service for other phones, and have always had success (they weren't Android though). Granted v2.1 may be a year old; however, SE only released the update last Nov I think. |

| 1172888 | 2011-02-01 03:36:00 | If that is the mini Pro you are talking about (cos you mention a keyboard), it originally came out with v1.6 on board. If you are still running v1.6, you should go to the Sony Ericsson website and update to v2.1. Apparently v2.1 makes a huge amount of difference to that phone. I don't think Sony have developed versions 2.2 and 2.3 at this stage. www.sonyericsson.com I'm not sure. The Mini and the Mini-Pro look exactly the same, how can you tell? Don't know how to check the OS on it either. |

The mini Pro has a slide out QWERTY keyboard. The mini doesn't! The two phones only look the same front on with the keyboard retracted! Suggest you get on to the site I have given you, and run the Update Service (unless you are on dial up!). That will give you the latest version of Android if you don't already have it. If you bought the phone before last Nov, and haven't updated it, it is probably running v1.6. Evidently v2.1 is much better. |

| 1172890 | 2011-02-01 03:48:00 | Cheers I do have the keyboard so must be the PRO (Love the keyboard) I'll check the site when I get home tonight, the phone has not bee updated before. PS its "he" |

| 1172891 | 2011-02-01 03:56:00 | I kinda guessed that someone choosing DeSade as a username was probably a 'he'! Please note! The SE website strongly warns you to back up all your phone data before running the Update Service. There is an updated version of their back up software on the same webpage, so maybe it would be wise to start there by downloading and installing the latest version of Backup, running that, then doing the Update. |

| 1172892 | 2011-02-01 07:03:00 | I thought that standard the Galaxy S came with 2.1? Johcar, grab yourself CM7 Nightlies, try Gingerbread. I've had great fun with the built-in SIP stuff :D Depends on your provider - Vodafone users have had access to 2.2 for a few months now; Telecom is a different story, as their ROM has been changed somewhat from standard; it appears to be available for some users, but not others. As Erayd points out, 2.2.1 is old, but the majority of dev work is done on the Samsung-released source code with all drivers etc, rather than a full from-the-ground-up release like AOSP/Cyanogenmod. Having said that, I'd rather have a super-optimized older version than a stock, new version. Having a phone on which things actually work 99.2837% of the time is quite a pleasant experience!! :p |
