1172875 2011-01-30 02:34:00 I'll beat my drum for the Galaxy S (again) - the hardware is top-notch, and even running the standard Android 2.2 it's is quite usable. There is still an issue with lag creeping in over time (well, over time, and with installing many apps!). This is easily fixable now.

To be honest though, if you want to maximize the potential of the SGS, you need to get acquainted with custom ROM's. They're heavily optimized from the kernel up, and give you stellar performance and complete flexibility. In this regard, the Android O/S is like any other Linux distro - if you want a Microsoft-style, hold-your-hand-and-make-all-the-decisions platform, it's not for you.

Given the size of the custom ROM userbase, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the devs at XDA are approached by Samsung - in fact, I believe there have been some unofficial communication by them.

1172876 2011-01-31 23:01:00 I thought that standard the Galaxy S came with 2.1?

Johcar, grab yourself CM7 Nightlies, try Gingerbread. I've had great fun with the built-in SIP stuff :D

1172879 2011-02-01 02:53:00 I don't know much about cell phones and I am not sure if my question relates to what your talking about, its a bit over my head.

I got a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini with Andriod on it.
The phone is OK but I would not chose it again, screen is a little small but I like the keypad.

Does anyone know if its possible to upgrade the version of Andriod on it? Its got the first release but we are up too 2.3 or something now right?

1172880 2011-02-01 03:06:00 If that is the mini Pro you are talking about (cos you mention a keyboard), it originally came out with v1.6 on board. If you are still running v1.6, you should go to the Sony Ericsson website and update to v2.1.

Apparently v2.1 makes a huge amount of difference to that phone. I don't think Sony have developed versions 2.2 and 2.3 at this stage.

2.2.1 is the current version of Android. It is possible to upgrade, but it's not an easy path....
