1205005 2011-06-04 08:32:00 What's your motherboard make and model?

I have seen this sort of thing before on a hard drive that was pulled from a game machine.

Hmmm, this might be rather difficult. Its an HP Pavilion a6260a, but I would need the take out a lot of wiring to even get near the motherboard. Will have a better look tomorrow when its daylight.

1205006 2011-06-04 12:24:00 Is this the PC you have?

h10025.www1.hp.com

If so then it looks like it takes IDE drives and the ones you have in the enclosures are SATA maybe?

Probably remove from Enclosure if no joy connected to USB and mount internally using a IDE to SATA / SATA to IDE Converter on the Hard drive or before spending any money ,put into a desktop with a IDE interface on the drive

1205008 2011-06-04 22:24:00 Remember that for 2.5" drives, the pins are finer pitch than those on other drives so you also need an adapter to solve that issue too.

You can get them fairly cheaply, but none as cheap as eBay, although that would add a 2-3 week wait.

1205009 2011-06-05 02:17:00 Sorry to be a pain, but have you tried a 2 into 1 USB power/data lead as I suggested earlier.

Using a single USB port, my external 2.5" hard drive has all sorts of problems, similar to what you are having. Plug the second port in and it works fine.

Cheap and worth a try.

1205010 2011-06-05 04:06:00 Have 3 HP Pocket Media drives with that cable

Just looked at the instructions, says the second short USB on cable is for USB 1.0 interface, would say curly's comp would be USB 2.0 as I have a HP a6660a and is USB 2.0

Sorry for delay in reply, it is a IPIBL-LA (Berkeley), think it might be Asus.

1205013 2011-06-07 00:57:00 I had similar problem but cured it by downloading EASEUS Partion recovery 5.0.1. I ran this on the external drive and it cured whatever was the problem. I am using WIN 7. A subsequent scan by AVG showed a virus and several bad files. I think this had something to do with the Master Boot record on the disk. Hope this helps. peterdb (10059)
