1172854 2011-01-27 21:01:00 ...would have to get my head around the size of something like a N1 (and it sounds as though the HTC Desire is even bigger). The Desire is almost exactly the size of an N1; the Desire HD is the large beast :).

Bear in mind that larger screens mean they eat more battery, so if that's an issue for you then something like the Desire HD may not be such a good choice.

Note also that not all Vodafone stores have a Nexus One available to play with, so it would pay to call them and find out before doing too much walking .

My bad - I misread The Error Guy's post above.

Yes, I have noted that in some of the reviews. I forget which one it is now, but one of these Android mobiles is said to be a real battery eater requiring a charge every day even when there has been little use.

Thanks. I don't mind walking, but generally I hope to have a purpose for it and an outcome!

I have to charge my Nexus One every day - I took my phone off it's charger at about 7am this morning, and I'm down to 51% battery . This is fairly normal for me .

My usage patterns involve relatively light web browsing, push email (Exchange ActiveSync), maybe a handful of SMSes and ~30 minutes talking on the phone .

1172857 2011-01-28 10:04:00 I have to charge my Nexus One every day...Ditto - I usually get a day of reasonably heavy use out of it, and by the time I go to bed the battery's down around 40%. You'll find this is the case with most smartphones though - this is mainly related to the large screens, but at the end of the day you're basically carrying the equivalent of a small, always-on laptop in your pocket. They do unbelievably well, but there's only so much battery you can fit into a package that small.

There are third-party batteries available that have a far larger capacity, but they'll make the phone significantly thicker.

If you can get hold of a desktop dock for it, get one - they're unbelievably convenient. Mine doubles as a nightstand clock and wireless stereo connection .

pcworld.co.nz Unless you're buying a tablet, there's no real reason to wait - most of the major enhancements in 3.0 are tablet-related. Just make sure you have a phone that's well-specced enough to run the upgrade (and from a manufacturer who will provide upgrades, or else get a phone you can run custom images on).

This is of course assuming you even care about 3.0 .

1172860 2011-01-28 10:54:00 I don't think internet / android marketplace works as smooth on android as internet and the app store works on iOS. Other then that android doesn't need to be jailbraked to be able to customize ;) merien (16149)

I've found both to be equally great, and Android supports UA spoofing and Flash (if you want it), which in my opinion puts it on top :).

I don't care about 3.0. I'm still waiting for the 2.3 release!
