1205307 2011-05-29 03:58:00 Never had VLC take over ? Then of course it may be the procedure I use to install the programs. That will have an effect on what for example is the default media player.

Where most people come into trouble with Askbar and such, is they use what ever the programs default settings are, instead of installing Via custom or the advanced options, and unticking the items they dont actually want.

I can't remember exactly what happened when I installed VLC in the past. The first time I installed it, I remember that it took over as default media player for virtually all, if not all, media file types. The second time I installed it (some years after I had got rid of it) I must have done something to stop it doing that, but I can't recall how. I have solved the problem by simply uninstalling VLC - if I need it again, I will install it then.

All Context menus ??? The only Options I can see in Ccleaners context menus is for the recycle bin.

Can you please provide an example as to where else you may be referring to:thanks

You are correct, my apologies. It is another programme that wants to be in all context menus. When you 'manually' install CCleaner, you have 5 options, and they are all checked by default. I always leave Start menu shortcuts and Check for updates checked. There are two for the Recycle bin, and one for Desktop shortcuts, and I always uncheck them. With the Ninite method, this is one example of a programme where I don't want the defaults. I keep a clean desktop, but most programmes I updated through Ninite placed a desktop icon by default.

I will go back to using File Hippo Update Checker so I have more control over what happens. Not a biggie.

I have not had this problem, including PDF's from AirNZ.

There have been 4 Sumatra updates so far this year. Sumatra is open source and evolves - see this page for details. (blog.kowalczyk.info)

1205313 2011-05-29 23:13:00 I use PDF-XChange Viewer, it's free and allows full editing. SKT174 (1319)
1205314 2011-05-29 23:37:00 I use Nitro. You pay but you can edit pdfs as well. Snorkbox (15764)
1205315 2011-05-30 00:56:00 Do any of these freebies allow to copy sections of text out of protected PDF's
The PDF isnt pass protected, but doesnt allow me to copy sections & paste into word , email whatever.
Its just a rulebook, so copy & paste of certain rules would be a bonus

1205316 2011-05-30 01:19:00 I don't usually have a problem with copying chunks of text from a . pdf (opened with Foxit Reader) to a Word document . I do it a lot as part of my work .

There are some . pdfs that don't seem to want to cooperate - the usual situation where this will happen is where I am trying to copy the name of a publication, author etc into a bibliography .

In that situation I am usually trying to copy from the 'cover page' of the . pdf, so I suspect that the information I want is an image rather than text . Whatever the reason it is always infuriating, but it is a rare occurrence .

Which tool are you using to copy text? Normally what I have to do is to outline the text using the Select text tool, then hit Ctrl C to copy, and Ctrl V to paste into the destination . doc .
