1204442 2011-05-24 12:01:00 At work we charge .12 for double sided A4 black and .75 for double sided colour. Not sure what our cost is. stapling included.
Our machines will print black if the colour cartridges are empty. Take into consideration these are not office machines but production machines.

1204443 2011-05-24 12:06:00 I'm not 100% sure, but as a general rule printers won't print if any of the colours are empty - inkjet or laser. There have been some models in the past that have, but not a lot.

All my Canon inkjets can print when out of ink, BJC1000SP, i450 and Pixma iP2000

Of course, doing such a thing is not a good idea, it can overheat the print head.

I found it makes no difference whether you look at inkjet or laser. What matters is how many pages you get from a cartridge or toner and what that cartridge/toner costs.

So far I've had excellent results from my new inkjet, and blue ran out yesterday, the thing is still printing too.

1204445 2011-05-24 23:34:00 I work with a couple of HP colour lasers. A low end one at home and a middle of the road one at work. Both can be set to ignore the toner out indication. I have found with both that I easily get a few months extra life from the cartridges before you notice any degradation in the output. AvonBill (11358)

That's useful to know - thanks.

Fair enough - but how many copies a year are we talking about?

1204448 2011-06-05 02:38:00 Hi

Just to tie up the loose end of this thread we, for various reasons, ended up purchasing and OKI C310 dn from Ascent (www.ascent.co.nz). Interestingly it seems to have jumped 30 bucks since buying it on 29 May.

I've never really used a colour laser much, certainly not since 2007, but this seems to do everything that was wanted (including duplexing - no stapler tho') - now it's just down to reliability and on-going long term costs.

Thanks for all the input!!

Going by what I've used so far in 4 1/2 months, it must be 3000 pages a year approx.
