If a computerised voice told you to jump off a cliff, would you?

Both are at fault, the GPS gave the wrong direction and the fools driving the car didn't stop to think.

I think I'll stick with Google maps, that only tells you to swim across the Atlantic ocean...

1172576 2011-01-26 08:20:00 Husbands GPS told him to do a U-turn while on the new SthWstrn motorway.
of course, he didn't.I had that the other day. The very last piece of the South-Western has only been open a few weeks so doesn't exist on most maps. I think I also accidentally selected 'shortest' route instead of 'fastest' as it then continued to tell me get off the motorway at Takanini and Ramarama (I was heading for Coromandel). I turned it off at that point. If a tourist had made that selection, who knows what route they would have been directed to follow. :D

It also had me pictured on the map driving several hundred meters down a ravine today as well. I know it was a loose-metal road, but it wasn't that rough.

1172577 2011-01-26 08:34:00 I have a GPS, Purely for the map function, I do not use it for directions. much better than being told to "turn left.. right.. recalculating route" The Error Guy (14052)
1172578 2011-01-28 23:28:00 i use the directions, esp in a place i have not been to before ... pretty good in most occasions, just use common sense.

but for the topic, are they gonna sue the GPS company :p

likewise to jaywalking and being hit by buses. many countries install barriers for that reason but NZ tend to think educating the public is better.

1172583 2011-02-02 00:44:00 Tried out the Navamna GPS on a trip to Rotovegas monday. It was quite an amusing drive.

First thing to baffle it was the Taupo Bypass, so new its not on the maps :punk but when I got to Wairraki that really confused it because it wanted me to go up the small sidelane road to Wairaki Village. So I ignored that kept up SH1 then across.

Actually made a change from sticking to SH5 :)

Something useful though was in Rotovegas when someone asked me directions! Haha I found them the route direct and thats from some one who is not a Rotovegas local. So in a way they have their uses.
