| 1172596 | 2011-01-26 00:30:00 | The govt doesn't have the balls to enforce law in international water, its a global problem. No one wants to act in fear of being called out. So what gives you the right to take it upon yourself? |

| 1172597 | 2011-01-26 00:58:00 | So what gives you the right to take it upon yourself? Fair point. But when nothing is done by those who supposedly has the 'rights' to do something about this problem, a rogue faction will rise to do just what the spineless leaders won't do. Sure, what they're doing is dangerous to both parties, and while I do not like what they do, I support their intentions regardless. I kinda see it like a very painful but much needed massage. Which I'm currently undergoing, as my back is apparently tight and out of whack. And I don't even get a beautiful female physiotherapist! But I still need to have it done, and that's roughly how I see the whole whaling business. |

Like the vast majority of modern protesters they are a lot of well meaning but misguided idiots lead by some devious lying money making individuals. I am more than happy to see international law enforced by those authorised to do so by law. Anything else is anarchy. No different than the suicide bombers who think it is great to blow up a bunch of innocent people to make a political point. Sea shepherd just does what they think will do the most to generate as much publicity as possible and keep the donations rolling in. Do you believe they give the discovery channel all that Whale wars footage for free! I don't think so. |

| 1172603 | 2011-01-26 03:15:00 | So what gives you the right to take it upon yourself? The UN World Charter for Nature 21. States and, to the extent they are able, other public authorities, international organizations, individuals, groups and corporations shall: (a) Co-operate in the task of conserving nature through common activities and other relevant actions, including information exchange and consultations; (b) Establish standards for products and other manufacturing processes that may have adverse effects on nature, as well as agreed methodologies for assessing these effects; (c) Implement the applicable international legal provisions for the conservation of nature and the protection of the environment; (d) Ensure that activities within their jurisdictions or control do not cause damage to the natural systems located within other States or in the areas beyond the limits of national jurisdiction; (e) Safeguard and conserve nature in areas beyond national jurisdiction. 22. Taking fully into account the sovereignty of States over their natural resources, each State shall give effect to the provisions of the present Charter through its competent organs and in co-operation with other States. 23. All persons, in accordance with their national legislation, shall have the opportunity to participate, individually or with others, in the formulation of decisions of direct concern to their environment, and shall have access to means of redress when their environment has suffered damage or degradation. 24. Each person has a duty to act in accordance with the provisions of the present Charter, acting individually, in association with others or through participation in the political process, each person shall strive to ensure that the objectives and requirements of the present Charter are met. And also, why the hell not. It's OUR planet we ALL have the RIGHT to protect our environment. ____________ Dont these guys/gals have jobs??? How can they afford to take a few months off to go chasing the japs?? I can't speak for all crew (due to the recession) but most crew members have a job outside of Sea Shepherd and take time off work to come down to the SOWS, they are all volunteers, it is entirely their decision what they want to do with their life. In fact they are probably contributing MORE to the world than people who sit at a desk in an office day-in-day-out, and take everything for granted. ___________ No they don,t have jobs. Like the vast majority of modern protesters they are a lot of well meaning but misguided idiots lead by some devious lying money making individuals. I am more than happy to see international law enforced by those authorised to do so by law. Anything else is anarchy. Do you believe they give the discovery channel all that Whale wars footage for free! I don't think so. Sea Shepherd gets a minimal amount of money from the Whale Wars series, SSCS is not interested in a drama show. That being said Whale Wars really raised the profile of the movement and SSCS wouldn't be in such good shape without it. __________ Here is a page from SSCS' 2009 financial report. All this information is available through the proper agencies in the USA, SSCS being a registered charity. i51.tinypic.com |

Sure, what they're doing is dangerous to both parties, and while I do not like what they do, I support their intentions regardless. Pretty much my thoughts too and I don't see it as the same as a suicide bomber whose sole intent is to cause death and injury. Sea Shepherd are trying to save life al be it non human. If Japan was whaling in its own coastal area only and need the whale meat to subsist I wouldn't have a problem, but they don't they have chosen to violate a whale sanctuary and pretend that killing whales for meat is for scientific purposes. Obviously there are a lot of ostriches in the world burying there heads in the sand and pretending that its all legal. I don't condone the tactics of Sea Shepherd but I do accept them as they are not targeting human lives except there own. |

| 1172605 | 2011-01-26 06:44:00 | I think your stretching it a bit to say that they are breaking laws in International waters. What do you want the NZ Gov to do?? Send a rowing boat with the shotgun to scare them away?? I suspect that the Japanese navy would come back with an even bigger rowing boat and gun and scare the NZ navy away.. We beat them before we will beat them again. |
