1206361 2011-06-02 09:21:00 Just swiped these specs from CL forum . I'd want to add win7 to it bringing the total cost up to about $1370 . Would probably change the case to something a bit subtler but hoping that will not change the cost too much .

1 . Is this machine worth while ? Was thinking i3 to allow future upgrades . Machine would be used for light gaming, web, some photoshop that sort of thing .

2 . would I be better to get a higher spec graphics card and if so any suggestions ?

3 . Alternatively would I be able to upgrade GPU at a later date with this set up ?

All feedback welcomed, thanks

1206363 2011-06-03 01:11:00 Okay, my thoughts, what is the point of the H67 chipset when you are getting a dedicated GPU anyway, although you will be able to do quick sync!
GT430 will be a bit light for HD gaming, at least a GT450!
4GB RAM is fine
OMG, your right!, the case is nasty...eek!

1206364 2011-06-03 01:22:00 If you use a discrete graphics card, you can't use Quicksync for video encoding.

You only need a discrete graphics card to play games, anything else, integrated is fine.

[I]Raidmax Tornado Entry Level Gaming Case (Black), Side Window, 500W PSU - $129 . 00

1)It's OK . Not great . NEVER use a bundled with case PSU, especially not Raidmax . Overclockers (the supplier) has just announced they aren't selling Raidmax cases with the PSU anymore . Damn good decision, they're probably sick of the high number of failures .

get a Corsair PSU instead .

2)Depends what games you play, but that is quite low end . people always pay attention to CPU and RAM with PCs and GPU last - for gaming the GPU is the SINGLE most important part . GPU, CPU then RAM, in that order .

But if gaming is low end and not important it would do . yes, you can change any and all parts later if you want/need to .

I3 is low for gaming too, I'd go I5 instead .

1206369 2011-06-03 08:38:00 Cheers for all the great advice so far. Anyway I happened past PBtech on the shore today so I popped in to see what they could offer. They came up with this for $1512 inc gst

intel i5 2300
8g ddr3 ram
1TB sata3 hdd
gts 450
cl 460w case
lg 23" led monitor
wired mouse and keyboard
win7

Seems a pretty good deal but i see that the i5 2300 appears to have been superseded by the 2400 and then (?) the 2500 ? Is this quite an old spec that I should steer clear of ? Again cheers in advance.

Or for $250 less they offered an i3 2100, 4g ram, gt210, 1tb hdd, but when I asked the guy about upgrading the GPU he said the power supply couldn't handle a better card.
