1205819 2011-05-31 04:49:00 was in the middle of my history lecture when my laptop turned itself off.

couldnt turn it back on, was fully charged before the lecture.

connected the adapter to it and plugged into the wall socket and it resumed before it shut down.

it initially read 0% (but charging), up to 14% now but it says also "there is a problem with you battery, so your computer may shut down unexpectedly" and "consider replacing your battery":badpc:

had the laptop over 2 years and never had anything like this come up before.

and it comes at a time when i can neither afford($) this to happen, nor as im trying to finish an essay and study for exams :(:(

HP pavillion DV5 1209AX btw

1205820 2011-05-31 05:11:00 i unplugged the charger then plugged it back in and the message to replace has gone away.

is this just a random thing or could it go completely???

1205821 2011-05-31 11:25:00 With my dv5 I had the message come and go. Now its stuck on the consider replacing your battery thing. My battery lasts about 20mins anyway. Are you sure that when it shut down it didn't overheat?mine use to automatically hibernate and shutdown. Post the CPU temp on speccy or speedfan.

1205822 2011-05-31 11:34:00 according to speedfan atm Temp1 is 78, Core is 77, but its dropping slowly. GameJunkie (72)
1205823 2011-05-31 22:02:00 i started it up this morning and a message came up that said something like "the capacity of the battery is low to very low" then it went to the log in screen. logged in, and while it was going through the startup process, the screen went black and it turned itself off.
:badpc:
it was fully charged last night, now when i press the power button nothing happens except the light indicator flashes :(

how could it lose capacity so quickly and unexpectedly???:help:

1205824 2011-05-31 23:25:00 It must be overheating. Whats the temp after 3-4 hours of internet browsing/multimedia? sahilcc7 (15483)
1205825 2011-05-31 23:43:00 i dont think it has anything to do with overheating

i'd like to hear what others may have to say about

1205826 2011-06-01 00:11:00 message popped up that says "consider replacing you battery" GameJunkie (72)
1205827 2011-06-01 01:36:00 i've done digging on the battery issue and the error code 601 apparently means the battery has about 25% of the original capacity left.

still , any ideas as to why its happened all of a sudden??, i haven't noticed any precursors to the battery failing so rapidly

1205828 2011-06-01 10:20:00 It actually might be the battery. Mine has this message when I click on the battery icon which has a X in red next to it:

'There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly.' And it says : 'Consider replacing your battery'.

It's never shut off like that too me and I never really use battery power.

Buy a new battery.
