Can you access the BIOS battery? It might be flat, although if it does _nothing_ it may be a short or other faulty hardware. |

Veeery interesting. I have exactly the same problem on an old Thinkpad A21E. I've always assumed it was a stuffed battery, but any other solution would be welcome. Where would I find the BIOS battery? |

It may be accessible under the RAM slot cover or some other cover. |

It's under the keyboard.Its actually under a panel that contains the "combo card", on the opposite side to the compartment that holds the RAM. This page (www-307.ibm.com) shows you. The instructions aren't real clear, and it is not immediately obvious where the battery is hiding. It is tucked away at the side, at the same end as the flexible straps for the card. |
