1174714 2011-02-02 12:17:00 Hi

Just wondering if anybody has purchased or used any Android apad tablet (theirs quite a few different types) or any other tablets except ipad and samsung galaxy tab way out of my price range, and if you have would you recommend them?

Mainly want 1 well cause they are cheap so i can read books, mags and surf the net with them

1174715 2011-02-02 12:35:00 I wouldn't go for the cheapest, what PBTech call the original Apad, it's just simply too slow IMO. The slightly more expensive one (Apad II) that has HDMI Output and a faster CPU / More RAM for around $280 + GST (Approx) is significantly better. I've owned both, but needed the money for a house deposit so sold them. The Apad II should have Froyo firmware available now which would make them rock even more.

That said, the 10" one looks quite appealing, I'd be keen to give them a whirl.

Down side: Charging through power cable only, not USB :( Also, the screen is definitely not on-par with the glass you'd be used to compared to an iPad or a Galaxy Tab. Still very usable though, and overall I was quite pleased with mine :)

1174716 2011-02-02 20:46:00 Keep in mind that if you buy one you will not be able to sell it on through TradeMe as they consider the aPad to be "too confusing" to buyers and remove any listings. Siobhan Keogh (16063)
1174717 2011-02-02 20:58:00 Bless TradeMe for their generous and selfless decision to decide on our behalf. We should all be very grateful, and super happy to give them extra money. ;) R2x1 (4628)
1174718 2011-02-02 20:59:00 Thanks Chilling_Silence, how did u find reading pdf files and surfing the web on your apads and did u play any games?

haha i kinda have to agree with them in some part their are so many different types of apads out there.

1174719 2011-02-02 21:11:00 They think it's confusing because people might buy them thinking it's an iPad, not because there are too many different types of aPad. Siobhan Keogh (16063)
1174720 2011-02-02 21:38:00 I bought my first one off TradeMe and resold it on there too? Is that a recent addition or something?

Great for browsing / surfing, Facebook, Email ... Games on the original Apad was dismal, don't bother. The Apad II was significantly better, but still a long way off the polish of the iPad. Still, Angry Birds worked, and I was able to output it via HDMI to my TV which was VERY cool, and incredibly useful for doing like slideshows of photos for family and things. The HDMI cable came with my Apad II which was *awesome*!!

1174721 2011-02-02 22:10:00 It might be a recent development. I spoke to them recently and they freely admit that they don't let you sell them because Apple has been in contact with them. Siobhan Keogh (16063)
