Howard Morrison said on a tv doco, that years ago if there was a dispute between 2 tribes they got together and a warrior from each tribe was sent out and they fought with their Taiha to see which tribe won. (Robin Hood style) The Maoris would not have lasted 5 minutes against some real warriors eg Shaka's Zulus. They had spears. They were not allowed to get married until they had killed someone in battle. |
