1174468 2011-02-02 07:14:00 Only ever use IE8 when the Microsoft site wont allow you to download something unless you have IE .... also got looking at something the other day and MS said I had to use Silverlight (sp?) or nothing ... gave up coz I hate it when dicktaters start telling what you HAVE to use. 1174469 2011-02-02 07:37:00 Dictators or were you trying to be funny. A patch was mentioned on the news tonight which you could download from MS but I have not found it yet. They reckon this hack can steal your credit card info and your postal address.

1174471 2011-02-02 08:26:00 A few years ago, IE was the most used browser, with the second being Netscape, which eventually died out. Since there were no major browsers for microsoft to compete with, IE remained unchanged, until the introduction of other browsers like Opera and firefox. Therefore, I think that microsoft is still trying to 'catch up' to the main browsers, like firefox and chrome. However, this has definitely become evident in IE9, even in the beta release. Just for comparison, I have some screnshots of the Acid3 test in IE, firefox and safari.

Now, I'm not hating on IE here, in fact I think it is quite a good browser. I am just saying that Microsoft needs to up its game. As I said before, Microsoft has become more standards-aware of IE.

Surprisingly enough, safari aced the acid3 test, which makes me think: Why aren't we using this browser. Yes, it's from apple, but at least it's standards-compliant, slick, and speedy.

1174472 2011-02-02 09:04:00 Because Chrome also scores 100% (At least I'm using Rockmelt based off Chrome-8), and it's faster, and doesn't try to remind me to install iTunes + Quicktime + MobileMe every 2 weeks ;)

But yes, I agree, scoring 100% on a standards test is definitely a good thing!

1174474 2011-02-02 12:09:00 I don't care what a browser does on a standards test as long as it works for everything else.

I use IE7 most of the time, Firefox 3 the rest, and if not them then sometimes Opera or Safari for fun.

Firefox 4 has not impressed me yet, and I hate the new design with the 'stick the menus up in the title-bar' crap.
