1174662 2011-02-02 23:44:00 if you're white, you'll never really know what racism is. Just like if you're male, you will never truly know what sexism is. You can know the definition, but its unlikely you'll ever understand. utopian201 (6245)

Plenty of truth in that, Though there are plenty of areas in NZ where you will be ejected by force for being white.

If anyone needs some first hand experience on racism thats a good place to start.

Umm have you ever been the only white person on a bus? I have I think I know what racism is, it happened in America several times

1174668 2011-02-03 02:36:00 Err . . . not really Chill . Racism is repression and prejudice against a group of people based on their race, carried out by a more powerful cultural group .

The critical element is who holds the power . In the USA it was the majority white people over a slave minority . In South Africa it was a white minority over a vast black majority - but the white people had the money, the army, the government - and the power .

In Fiji, the indigenous minority hold power over the Fijian-Indian majority .

In no way, shape, form, or purpose can Maori be said to have dominant power in NZ .

All that aside, I hope the media boycott .

I disagree the following definition does not require the perpetrator of rasicm to be of a dominant culture:-

rac·ism
   /ˈreɪsɪzəm/ Show Spelled[rey-siz-uhm] Show IPA
–noun
1 .
a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others .
2 .
a policy, system of government, etc . , based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination .
3 .
hatred or intolerance of another race or other races .

If your requirement for dominance is followed then all racist slurs and comments by minorities are, by your definition not racism . You give comfort to the lovely Hone .
