1174316 2011-02-01 20:53:00 Talk about double talk - in that Herald article, Vodafone re-defined their spam as "targeted advertising".

And what is it that makes organisations like Vodafone say they have changed an obnoxious practice, "but not because of your complaint"? Sigh...

The only thing they send txts about is the $12 a mth 5000 txt or something. I just delete them. If I wanted it, I would get it. But I dont, so I wont

1174318 2011-02-01 21:16:00 I've my phone on 24/7 just in case my friends needs me in an emergency. SKT174 (1319)
1174319 2011-02-01 21:41:00 Likewise. I'm the emergency point of contact for a lot of things, not just friends / family, but also mission-critical servers and systems for multiple businesses.

This is why I'm personally on contract, it just keeps going, no worrying about top-ups ;)

This and my phone is my alarm...however to be fair its mostly redundant as an alarm now as the kids wake us up way before the alarm does!!....LOL

1174321 2011-02-01 22:45:00 2degrees are awesome at spamming me with text messages every day, but I haven't gotten one at 4am yet. Siobhan Keogh (16063)
1174322 2011-02-02 02:40:00 Here is a suggestion - this is what I do:

I have a profile on my phone for sleeping, which silences texts, emails and notifications, but rings for calls. The logic is that in an emergency anyone would call me if they needed to, rather than rely on a text in the middle of the night.

I even have restricted it to a predefined list of contacts (family and friends) so as to prevent random customers calling me in the middle of the night when I want to sleep. However not everyone would want to do this and it is not a critical part of the idea (also not all phones will have that feature, but all phones would probably allow you to silence texts and notifications only).

1174323 2011-02-02 02:54:00 Not useful if servers send SMS alerts ;) Chilling_Silence (9)

I would never rely on sms for any important messages. You just never know if someone receives it, especially between the different networks. And yes I use my phone for an alarm, in fact its on me or next tom me 24/7

I think a server would find it difficult to call and relay the error message that just caused it to crash.

Technology has not gone as far as conversational english :)
