| 1173584 | 2011-01-29 22:50:00 | So make the start and reserve the same... I never understood the point of making them different. :thumbs: Thats exactly what we did earlier this year when selling a Bed, didn't get charged anything extra either. The reserve went on the first Bid - the only fees we had to pay were the Auction Success Fee, + extra for some photos. No big deal. in the end we sold it for over $100 more than what we were wanting. :) There were of course lots of extra's you could get - but the biggest thing is to make sure you have the item you are selling in the right category. One thing I dont like about trademe - is how so many shops these days sell new stuff there - its not how it was started off, mainly as a second hand place at reasonable prices -- now days its more like an online store :( |

| 1173585 | 2011-01-29 23:35:00 | As pctek pointed out, TMs commission/fee rates are set to increase from 7 February (www.nzherald.co.nz). | Jen (38) | ||
| 1173586 | 2011-01-29 23:56:00 | You want to read the announcement in today's online Herald. Some pr guy called Todd said that because they have twice as much traffic as 2 years ago, they feel they can charge more as sellers are getting more traffic. He forgot to advise that the sell though rate is a lot less. There is a bit of a revolt going on over there, with many people saying they will move to Sella, of course the always is, and we all know that Sella does not have the same number of buyers. But revolts do work, there was a revolt when they tried to put up the price for gallery pics (and they backed down) Tunisia, and Egypt anyone ? If you want aother site to consider, there is ebid. This is a UK based site, but it allows you to list in NZ and sell to anywhere in the world. I sell to the UK and the USA via ebid. There is a one off joining fee, then listings are free and there is a 2% final value fee, with 5 free pics. |

| 1173587 | 2011-01-30 00:07:00 | "The last increase in fees was 2008." Is that correct? I'm sure they've gone up since then, or is it just the added fees on stuff that used to be free? Ie the reserve price etc |

| 1173588 | 2011-01-30 00:19:00 | Id like to know why TM has nearly 100 staff. (to pay for) Bonanza is the USA has only 10, and they are bigger, and they enforce their policies. Also bandwidth and computers get cheaper. And their fees have doubled since 5 years ago. And yes they work on small increase here, and increases there, so we do not notice it. |

TM has the buyers (and listings) because the majority haven't left. If they all did and went to Sella for instance, then Sella would have the numbers and TM would be dead. |

Because Trademe also has things that that other site doesn't have, such as Jobs and Real estate, which require more staff. It is still very good value when compared to other ways to sell your stuff. They have to do a lot of checking of people auctions when reported. They also provide phone support, and quite efficient email support, which requires a lot of staff. I can't comment on how good the other websites support is. It is a good thing that they are employing more staff, and as they are an Ozzie owned company, I am glad that the parent company hasn't changed TM too much. I don't mind then charging, however when they charge a percentage, that really shouldn't change, but we have had a rise to GST which is one reason for the increase. |
