1173138 2011-01-27 20:36:00 MSSE v2.0 has a neat new feature where you can dial down how much CPU time it spends scanning. A great feature for older single-core machines. AvonBill (11358)

1173140 2011-01-27 21:12:00 My vote: MSSE

Just uninstalled Avast from a friend's machine - it was blocking browser (just browser access, any browser) access to the interweb and installed MSSE. He's as happy as a <insert appropriate superlative here>!!

1173141 2011-01-27 21:22:00 MSSE. I still see very occasionally an XP PC that doesn't like MSSE - very high CPU usage. But it is the superior product. Go for MSSE first, and you will more then likely be fine. wratterus (105)

The latest version of AVG has that too where you can slide to higher or lower CPU usage .

Haven't had this problem, but I only use Google-related browsers and never use IE for anything but M$ Updates .

My friend had IE8, FF3 . 6 and Chrome installed - each browser errored when we tried to access an interweb site .

Uninstalled Avast and access was restored . Don't know what the problem was, it was late at night and we were just pleased the problem was resolved .

It would be your luck wouldn't it Joe! Your PCs seem to work on the 'if it can go wrong, it will' theory.
