1174531 2011-02-02 04:11:00 I dont care if its spelt wrong . . . . . . . . . . .

this year suxs already . . . . . . . . .

all thro november / december we have had at our work jobs hanging in the balance . . . . . . . . . . . we find out late january they ok for now . . . . . . .

3 weeks ago my work got broken into and burgaled . . . . . . they took 2 laptops, a digital camera and possibly other items . . . . . . . . there was lots of blame and shrugged shoulders on that . . . . . . . . insurance have com to the party .

we had to order a new laptop as it was a office laptop, with all our work on it, day to day stuff, children's individual portfolios and photos from every day . . . . an enormous amount of office data as well . . . . . . . .

on monday we had to close the centre, we had to do an emergency phone to parents at 8 am onwards to say dont come . . . . . . . . . we have no power . . . . . . electrician came . . . . . . . . not a pole fuse or any things small . . . . . . no of course not . . . . . . the mains cable showed signs of a fault thro the ground on the sensor machines they bought in . . . . . . . . . . . probably a 40 meter cable to other building then out to the street, another 50 meters aprox, under buildings, our centre greenhouse and the huge building we sit behind . . . . . . . . . :(
so monday was the day in the dark, for us teachers running round, meetings assessing and organising things if we dont open tomorow, (tuesday)
tuesday came the electrician had rigged up a petrol generator to get us open . on limited usage .
by 8am we had had various complaints, and noise control informed . . . . . . . . sigh,
they found the fault, they brought in specialist people, and found it was in the playground area, and under the concrete . . . . . . . . . . . they dug a tunnel . . . . . . by late yesterday we had power . . . . . . .
they filled the hole today . we get to have our whole playground area back and we have power!

today our new computer arrived . . . . . . . . . . . to be told that our external hardrive had failed to back up anything from june last year . . . . . . . the hard drive was not supplied by the computer company, my boss went shopping and bought it off the shelf, and now we find that since june it had been full . . . . . . . . :( i have no idea what size it was . . . . . . . . but angry doesnt even describe what the staff feel at the moment . . . .

all our work gone, our childrens portfolios, and written data gone . . . . . . . . . . . :(

we have to start from scatch . . . . . .

:(
and that is just january done . . . .

1174533 2011-02-02 04:23:00 Well I pay my rates monthly. So that when the bill arrives, it's paid already.

I set up payments from when we bought this place - lawyer had said rates were paid until Dec.

Today I find no, they had been paid through Nov only, and I now owe $271. Bugger. They're right too.

Paid, and now broke.

**** happens.
Life's a *&%#@ and then we die.
Etc.......

1174534 2011-02-02 04:25:00 That is truly terrible Beetle, I am very sorry to hear about it.

While the chances of success are not great, I suggest you appeal as publicly as possible for the anonymous return of the data.

Not all thieves are equal and there is a chance they may be willing to return the data while keeping the rest. You could even offer a reward, as hundreds of dollars would likely be far less than the cost of replacing the data.

I think there is even a good chance that the mainstream media would be interested in this story, which would greatly increase the chances of the thief hearing the appeal for the return of the data. It's worth a try. You might find someone willing to help with a reward for the return of the data, who knows.

In future, it might pay to get someone to check once a month that the backups are working correctly. It sounds like the cost (time, pain, money, anger) of losing the data is far too great not to.

1174536 2011-02-02 04:42:00 the computer company we use set it up to back up, every day or once a week not sure,
im not sure how often they come in to do stuff, but i dont even know if any of the staff at my work no how to check if it is backing up and how regularly . . . . . . :(

it mite be just a simple thing, but its a killer thinking of all those hours of work, gone . . . . . .

we will survive and move on, but today it just feels horid . . . . . .
