But the price?

Inflight roaming costs of 80c per outbound text, $3.50/min to make a call, $2.00/min to receive a call and $20 per megabyte of data, apply.
Dont think I will ever use it.
Not that I have used a plane for years :D

With enough Posers, wan**ers, and Jaffas around, there's bound to be one or two on each flight regaling the rest of the passengers with a loud voice that they are calling from aboard "my" flight, how's my snookums / studmuffin doing? / tell the chairperson I'm running a bit late / have the driver wait at the international terminal for me / tell the minister I need to make our meeting later in the day. Et cetera.

Fortunately as I understand it, these calls may only be made at cruising altitude, and our domestic stage lengths are mercifully too short to subject us to too much of it.

1175852 2011-02-07 03:55:00 Realistically the only people who would use it would be business types who need to squeeze every minute out of the day. They're also the sort of people whose company would pay for the bill, so they don't care.

Hopefully the price will deter enough people from using the service though, that we'll still have some relative peace and quiet (I always bring and use industrial grade earplugs to block out most of the noise anyway).

Marketing types. You know the one who believe that the company they work for exists for them to spend as much as they like to impress..

1175854 2011-02-07 17:21:00 This will be one aircraft I will avoid flying in for the following reasons:
1. Safety - yes I still believe it is unsafe to use cell phones in aircraft.
2. Loud obnoxious people on phones. Its a god darn aircraft not a phone booth.
3. I don't like the expectation that I'll be working while traveling.

$20NZ actually is not too bad :)

If you internatinonally roam, it could even cost $20US for an American . $30NZ is about right for a no . of countries, if you don't have Vodafone on the place you are going provided you are with Vodafone in NZ .

Again $3 . 50 - $5 . 00 is about the rate to call any no . if you are roaming - to call local or call back to NZ .
