1174814 2011-02-03 00:25:00 Looks pretty good to me. I've got a slightly older onkyo HT receiver, lower spec than that (no HDMI and the like) and I'm very happy with it.

If you compare it to other brands in the same spec range it would be appear to be a pretty sharp deal.

1174815 2011-02-03 00:38:00 Was reading reviews on Amazon (www.amazon.com) and they seem pretty good. The model is at least 6 months old. Did a Google search in NZ and nothing came up.

1174816 2011-02-03 01:20:00 My Onkyo reciever is the single best purchase I have ever made, Its quite a few years old but shes damn fine.

A couple years back I upgraded it with a spanking new Pioneer unit, I ended up swapping them back.

1174818 2011-02-03 04:08:00 Went to buy it, but the page said item not available. Sent them an email a couple of hours ago to see if they are getting anymore. Haven't heard from them yet.

1174819 2011-02-03 08:51:00 I've got one, but I paid a lot more for it than that... Groan. Very satisfied though. John H (8)
1174820 2011-02-03 20:42:00 Yes it looks OK. But the things likely to be wrong with it will not show up in the specs...

We bought a Pioneer model earlier this year at about 50% higher price. Here are the annoyances:

- it doesn't have a separate volume control for the radio - you have to use the master. The problem is that our favourite radio station - RNZconcert - is about 6 dB too loud. When we switch to radio during the TV ad breaks, we have to hit the 'down' button 12 times (at 0.5 dB per hit). Then back up again when we go back to the TV

- it's too slow to change sources. When we switch back to TV after the ad breaks, we miss too much

- it doesn't work well with our Sony TV (EX700). When we turn the TV on, say 5 min before the news (or if we just want the TV on to navigate some media player menus), the Pioneer thinks we want to listen to the TV and switches to that. We can switch back to whatever we were listening to but the Pioneer switches 3 times to the TV before letting us have our way. In the end we disconnected the HDMI connection to the TV

In many respects, we would rather have our old Technics. (But it died)

It's not a Pioneer. It's Onkyo...

TV channels on the TV are the same, sometimes the difference between TV1 and TV3 are quite alot and the same for different Sky channels, so that is quite common.
