1175744 2011-02-07 02:20:00 I actually have file duplication turned off.

While its a good idea to have duplicates, it also means you need twice the capacity.

Personally I'd rather have backups on a different drive - one short circuit within the Server, and it could blow everything, as well as all data and copies.

1175745 2011-02-07 03:45:00 I'm guessing the server backup will be a lot better than WHS v1 as it now has the 2008 R2 base?
The problem with the WHS v1 server backup is that it doesn't include the backups from all the workstations! And you can't schedule it to do it automatically, you have to run it manually.

1175746 2011-02-07 03:51:00 Having it based on 2008 is one MASSIVE difference. :D

I'm going to give it a go now, I was put off by the reports of various different dramas before.

Where is that setting please ?

I know WHS backs up workstations every night, mine are set to do auto backups between 8-9PM daily, and they do. But the actual server backup - I usually do manually, and thats only its data ???

Edited: I think I found my own answer :) -- I always backup over the LAN, seems you have to plug in an external drive first -- bummer. Under my drives backed up the server doesn't show.

Haha, yea you need an external drive, which you then configure for backups and then you can tell the WHS console to do a backup of the server itself.
However it only includes the shares on the server, you can select which ones, but it doesn't backup the OS itself or the backups from the other networked machines.

Might just stick to the manual way currently till the new versions goes RTM.

Open Spare HDD over LAN, Copy /Paste just over 450GB - :waughh: go take a nap or two :sleep
