1175116 2011-02-05 06:10:00 I sell the odd HP business machine, but I don't like the fact they use non-standard parts - especially the weird power supply they use. Greven (91)

He has it, its cheap so why not use it.

And yes, configuring PC's is not my job, but I would defiantly make one of these boxes work if it was available.

Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 integrated graphics Graphics memory is shared with system memory. Graphics memory usage can vary from 8 to 512 MB depending on the amount of system memory installed and system load

If someone presented me with one of those after I requested a media box I'd fire them on the spot.

1175121 2011-02-05 11:07:00 So buy one. Anyway enough crap in this thread I think. You have made your point, I disagree with it all the same. Alex B (15479)
1175122 2011-02-05 18:49:00 I think Metla has a very valid point though. Why spend another $50-100 buying a low-profile PCI-e card, when you can get something like the ACRyan PlayOn media box with wireless for around $200.

nofam said he had the option of buying it at low cost. I'd strongly suggest getting a decent media player box, rather than that HP system for use as a HTPC.

1175123 2011-02-05 20:03:00 Not only does the system fail in the video/audio output stakes ( a media PC ideally needs to be able to pump out full HD video and Audio without breaking a sweat) but based on the supplied info I have no idea of the capabilities or features of the motherboard, the PSU or the heat that would be generated.

Just saying put in a video card into a business machine shows a disregard or lack of comprehension for the task at hand.

Sure, someone might be happy with a crappy PC pretending to be a home theater machine but surely thats not the quality of advice that was being sought.

1175124 2011-02-05 20:14:00 Thanks for all the healthy debate chaps - the only reason I was considering this instead of a WD TV Live etc is that I still do a bit of transcoding (DVD to h.264, and various other formats down to play on my Galaxy S), so the thought of an E8400 CPU was quite appealing!! nofam (9009)
