1206539 2011-06-03 00:04:00 Latest news on Win8: PC World article (www.pcworld.com ) ...and... PC Mag article (www.pcmag.com)

"Microsoft says Windows 7 users won't need bigger and better hardware to run the freshly unveiled Windows 8. The PC system requirements will be the same if not less than what's needed to run Windows 7, although the new operating system definitely appears tailored for the touch-screen interfaces of tablets."

This CNET article (news.cnet.com) has some good points, e.g. Why bother to upgrade to Win8 if you don't need the touch screen feature?

1206541 2011-06-03 02:15:00 hopefully this isn't a vista repeat. Shouldn't they be focusing on supporting w7 instead of bringing new OS's out faster than COD? icow (15313)

IIRC you can switch between a touch interface and a Windows 7-like interface.

Things like your Cellphone can now get an upgrade every 6 -> 12 months, it's an in-place upgrade and for the better part it "just works" (For example iPhone / Android). Granted they're not 100% perfect, but why can't a Windows upgrade be similar? At least in the case of Android / iOS they don't cost for the new version.

I'll say. If XP can last 10 years then so can 7.

+1. I don't exactly want a huge version of WP7, plus the ribbon on explorer looks nice. Same with the logon thing and stuff.
