1175900 2011-02-07 04:19:00 my broadband connection is with Paradise (Telstra Clear). I livge in Albany, just north of Auckland. I have a 2 MBps connection. Speedtest.net gives me average speeds of 150-250 kBps. If I complain about it, then for about a week it goes up to 0.8 MBps, onl;y to drop the week thereafter again to 150-250. I conclude that my phonecall has impact. How can that happen? What do they technically do to give me that pathetic temporary improvement in speed. Is this a sign that another ISP may achieve far better results with the same exchange? hotkiwi (6379)
1175901 2011-02-07 04:45:00 Paradise does not rate that high, you might be better off with a tin and some string. DeSade (984)
1175902 2011-02-07 05:16:00 I have a 2 MBps connection

What is the actual plan ? Telstra dont have a Cable plan at that speed,or are you on ADSL with Telstra -- If its ADSL, that type , used to be called PDQ, is not that stable. Cable as far better.

if its Cable:
All but their top end plan is --- Up to 15 Mbps / 2 Mbps Their plans (www.telstraclear.co.nz)

My line speed sits on average of 13-14 Mbps. Its higher later at night - less traffic.

Do a real speed test - Speednet is to inconsistent. Go to This one in Aussie (http://www.ozspeedtest.com/) - select the 3 or 9 MB test - (9 is more accurate) According to speedtest, my upload is almost twice as fast as my download ----- errrrrr NO!

Heres my results @ 6.15pm

Data: 9 MB
Test Time: 5.2 secs

Your line speed is 14.54 Mbps (14536 kbps).
Your download speed is 1.77 MB/s (1817 KB/s).

1175903 2011-02-07 07:53:00 It will be ADSL as it is in Albany. mikebartnz (21)
1175904 2011-02-07 10:00:00 Yes, that is correct.
It is ADSL and it is their PDQ package. the PDQ package has a major pricing advantage. it adds 10 GB blocks when required, and only then you pay 11 $ for the next pack. Als Telstra, speak paradise ignores ongoing questions to look at why the connection is too slow (everytime you get them on the phone after a 45 minute wait, they want you to go through the whole exercise of unplugging ADSL filters etc etc again; waste of time).
I will ow try nznet.co.nz. See what they can do with their 100 GB plan for 99 bucks.
