1175511	2011-02-06 00:25:00	www.stuff.co.nz A Waitangi dawn ceremony ended with a Maori elder predicting the destruction of Wellington in a huge earthquake that would leave the Beehive "lying in the debris of the streets". In a strange end to this morning's prayer ceremony at the Treaty Grounds, Kerei Tia Toa said he had "seen" a great earthquake that was going to ravage Wellington. He predicted the earthquake would create a tsunami that would stretch down to Kaikoura and when the water returned it would rush into the streets of the capital and cause widespread destruction as far north as Whanganui. The crowd of over 1000 went silent in disbelief as Tia Toa detailed the cataclysm he had foreseen. "I've seen body bags lying in the streets of Wellington,'' he told the crowd . "I have seen the roof of the Beehive lying in the debris of the streets of Wellington.'' Tia Toa said he had waited 38 years to share his prediction. He did not know what year the catastrophe would occur but he did know it would be in the month of June.	Cato (6936)

1175515	2011-02-06 01:26:00	www.stuff.co.nz He has about a one in twelve chance of being right eventually, but no doubt he will take credit for May or July earthquakes. I remember the story Issac Asimov told of having a strong premonition that the river boat he was going to travel on that day was going to catch fire and sink. This premonition was so vivid that he convinced his wife not to go on the trip that day and they stayed safely on shore. Sure enough the riverboat went off on its journey and everyone had a wonderful day and nothing happened at all. Unfortunately this eartquake vision is obvious mumbo jumbo, one shouldn't share these delusions with the public as you only look like a superstitious lunatic. Of course Wellington will have a significant Earthquake one day, but you don't need to have a vision to know that, hell you don't even need a crystal ball.	Twelvevolts (5457)

1175518	2011-02-06 01:42:00	No he's right. Wellington is on the fault line. Sooner or later it will have a big earthquake. Dunno about Wanganui etc but if you wait long enough he'll be right. How pathetically easy - it's not exactly a hard prediction. Let's see him give the year and we might be impressed. I predict Auckland will have some rain soon.	pctek (84)
1175519	2011-02-06 01:42:00	WOW - seems some dumb bugger can read - looks like someone must have read the Wellington Fault line (www.gns.cri.nz) -- spose he could be right -- give or take 500 - 1000 years or so.
