1207649 2011-06-07 23:43:00 Braindead this morning guys ... could someone please tell me if the calculations below are correct. Telecom trying to tell me I used 20GB in one day.

The 3.5MB/s IS correct ... and yes ... I'm giving them stick about that as well because the last tech I had out here said I should be around 10MB/s

3.5MB/s x 60 = 210MB/minute
210MB/m x 60 = 12,600MB/hr or 1.26GB/hr

20GB / 1.26 = 15.87 hours

1207651 2011-06-07 23:53:00 No....3.5MB/s = download of 448kb p/sec, 26MB p/m & 1.6Gb p/hr

divide the bandwidth by 8 to get byte size per second......

In your figures, 12,600MB is 12.6GB, not 1.26. But you seem to be using bits, not bytes, so yes as Sol said, a 3.5Mbps connection has a theoretical maximum of just under 1.6GB/hour so nearly 13 hours at maximum throughput to download 20GB.

1207657 2011-06-08 01:34:00 I had a 12 gb spike one day, wasn't much I could do about it to argue with telecom. You may find that it was catching up some of your previous usage. So you didn't actually download that much in that period but it was catching up after not updating properly.

I've since added a new router on my system with gargoyle on it, this keeps track of usage from my network, and at the moment seems to marry up with what Telecom says.
