1177728 2011-02-13 05:33:00 I just read something interesting about crippling low-end devices to make them inferior to the same product, listed as better, for more money of course by the same manufacturer::

Rotten scoundrels!

Here's the tip-off::

1177729 2011-02-13 05:58:00 It's sennheiser headphones, so I'm not surprised. Using their god like brand name to encourage people to buy the highest end crap that they sell.
It's almost exactly like Microsoft's business model. Only worse.

To a lesser extent, you can buy dual core CPU's and try to unlock 3rd or 4th cores, but you mightn't be successful. Same sort of thing, only they're set as duals for a reason.

1177730 2011-02-13 08:11:00 I fully support the practice. It means that us hacker types can turn a cheap piece of hardware into something worth much much more. ubergeek85 (131)
1177731 2011-02-13 09:04:00 That's just the thing though. It really ISNT worth that much more. In the sennheiser case anyway. It just means they've taken the opportunity to make money using methods that are quite probably criminal, in fact.

As for my second point previous though, yes, i agree. risk/profit =reward rFun (remainderFUN)
