1176230 2011-02-08 00:40:00 Hello

I've got a bit of spare time on my hands (to say the least) until I start University at the end of this month and was wondering if anyone knew some good places to get photos around Auckland and up north a bit.

I've got my own car to get me places and I've got everything I need except where to go, although I am considering the Auckland Lateran Festival in the middle of the month.

I've got a Canon 1000D with a 28-105mm 3.5-4.5, 100-300mm 4.5-5.6, of course the kit lens 18-55 3.5-5.6 IS, a 50mm 1.8 prime and I have a fish eye and a Wide/Macro adapter, oh and a tripod.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Seriously though, Devonport could be a good place to catch the city skyline.

1176234 2011-02-08 04:35:00 Alright those sound like some good ideas but are there any that don't involve Auckland, I seem to be infamous among some people for getting lost there despite having a GPS, regardless I will go to Auckland occasionally, and may attempt a Sunset or Sunrise shot over there sometime Civic (15464)
1176235 2011-02-08 04:40:00 There are the (very) old cement factory ruins in Warkworth that should make for some good photos. The grounds are open to the public.

1176238 2011-02-08 06:08:00 For Auckland, look at this dude's photographs, I think he has GPS data there but not sure about how exactly, like he has a shot of the spaghtti junction but where the heck exactly that is lawful

For the bridge, Northcote is the better side than the other side, the other side you are too low and too many fishing pple etc .. For the classsic perspective, go into ferry terminal station thingy, and set up tripod on that walk way pathment.

For the skyline, there is a lookout point called Stanely Point at Devonsport. A total view of the skyline. Even met some AKLders there too with tripods etc at dusk.

For a classic Viadcut Basin. Just go there at night but not too late so you still have color in the sky and the building's lights comes on so you get cross lighting. pretty much just by the fence where the boats are looking towards the Sky Tower.
