1176156 2011-02-07 22:18:00 So I feel like a Kung Fu Master has knife handed my shoulder blades overnight!

Naturally, I've started phoning different medical centres to book an appointment after work hours as I'm unable to make it to my Family Dr during work hours, however it is going to cost me (approx) $58 . 25 for just a consultation at a medical centre (which I am not registered with) including A & E .

Sorry but for a possible strained mussle, I'd rather endure the pain of it . But what about if it was some serious injury or illness?

I understand there is funding these medical centres however the price does seem a little high for a simple consultation .

Any thoughts?

1176157 2011-02-07 22:23:00 The funding is often only for children or those on low incomes/welfare. One option is to give Healthline a call (it's free) and speak to a registered nurse. They might be able to offer you some basic medical advice.

Is there any chance you can go to your family doctor during your lunch break, or arrange with your employer to leave work a couple of hours early (and make up for the lost time another day)? The last time I went to an after hours doctor in Wellington it cost $90 just for a consultation, so it definitely isn't cheap.

1176159 2011-02-08 02:56:00 And if the pain continues for days, definitely see the doctor! $56.25 sounds very reasonable for an after-hours appointment. Cheapest I've ever heard of.

But the lunch break idea sounds very smart. I don't see why that would not work. The appointment should not take longer than 20 mins, and unless your employer is VERY unreasonable, a slightly long lunch break for a doctor's appointment should NOT be a problem!

1176160 2011-02-08 03:16:00 When I go to the doctor which is on a regular basis, I have to wait at least over half an hour past my appointment time.

Agreed, it's a good idea . However my lunch break falls on a time where my Dr accepts 'drop ins' and you need to be there a good 1/2 hour before they open for the after noon to be seen within my lunch break .

Pain killers and shoulder movements appear to be working, but yes as said if pain continues I'll definitely pay the money for the treatment .
