| 1176499 | 2011-02-10 00:11:00 | NZ seems to think its a richer country than it really is, & spends accordingly- from borrowed funds. This cant last much longer. We arnt rich enough to have higher minimum wages. Borrow borrow borrow, spend spend spend Real new jobs come from exports, not loans. We have to compete with every low paid & high tech country out there for those new export earnings. Thats the problem. The main earners for NZ are Tourism & farming . Neither will ever get NZ rich, just the opposite I suspect. Thats actually happening now. Create jobs: how??? The NZ economy is a basket case & has been for as long as I can remember, back into the 1970's. We were basicly insolvent after Muldoon got kicked out of power. Borrow borrow borrow, spend spend spend the govt should pay for it; the govt should pay for it; the govt should pay for it : them govt is you & me paying taxes dumass. Have a look at some of the Insolvent Euro countries, thats were we are going (again). The EU wont be bending over backwards to bail out little ol NZ. Borrow borrow borrow, spend spend spend I wouldnt bank on the the welfare state as is, being around much longer either , it cant last when the money (borrowed) to pay for it just dries up. |

Quite agree with you, the problem is: there isn't any capable LEADER who can lead us to the correct path. Whoever comes into power in the Beehive will not change anything simply because none of the bunch of politicians in NZ is capable of (as far as I can see) taking us to the brighter future. Merging with OZ probably is an option; but whether OZ wants to do so is another big question. |

It is not the LEADER it is the fact we only have a 3 year term, not enough time to sort too much, then if you do what is needed you get thrown out because you are not Borrow borrow borrow, spend spend spend enough. |

If the system is not right, put it right, don't give excuses. We have a bunch of greedy, useless, self-fish politicians sitting at the Beehive warming their *#$$. They are worst than those beneficiaries, considering the fact that we (tax payers) pay them fat salaries, allowances, etc., etc. for doing nothing other than talking rubbish. |
