1176488 2011-02-09 10:38:00 In the UK, they are "talking" about making every person on the dole turn up to their WINZ every day, and then go and look for jobs from there, and or do some charity work.

...

Is this another way of creating more jobs? WINZ will certainly needs more staff (or MANAGERS) to manage these people at WINZ's office

I'm sure there are other better means of creating real jobs.

1176489 2011-02-09 10:47:00 They should just have 50% of the unemployed digging holes and the other 50% filling them in. zqwerty (97)

One of the things that people on the dole lose is a sense of purpose. Making them go down to the WINZ Office would give them a routine to follow instead of them staying in bed till late. The work for the dole scheme helps them keep up work ethics. They should also update their skills by attending training courses.

If they get out, do volunteer work and courses they can at least show potential employers that they have not just been sitting around.

1176492 2011-02-09 18:54:00 And Pctek you know that many people on the dole have other means of income.

There was a unemployed man on the radio today saying he could not get a job, he was a truck driver with 6 certificates, but they only wanted to pay $22.00 an hour and he could not support his family on that. Yet he was happy to take the dole!

And deep down we all know that over half of the sickness beneficiaries are not sick.
They are druggies or alcholics, or are "depressed".
.

What other means? You are allowed to keep $100 Gross if you have part time work, then they deduct it off you.

And I don't believe the truck driver story. $22 is $45000 a year. The dole isn't. Even with kids.

1176493 2011-02-09 19:27:00 Any money earned in addition to the dole is immediately deducted if the earner has an Accommodation Allowance. zqwerty (97)
1176494 2011-02-09 19:34:00 I have heard that some prefer not to work because the dole is better if you factor in expenses getting to work even if you can earn a bit that might be tax free or is it at a reduced rate  (on top of your benefit). Even more so if both parents had to work I have heard that they have to set upa babysitter or whatever .. they would be worst off.

I don't know what changes has been made. I know someone on the dole for the 2011 they were asked to re-register, took a while, not sure if they were backlogged but they approved it and might of gone to 1 or 2 seminars and now it's the same old. Staying at home for some weeks already for 2011 "mucking around".

Lots of young people on the dole, sell various substances and enter into other peoples houses to supplement their income.

I was just repeating what the truck driver said on Danny Watsons radio show.

There is still Super available to ones partner if one is 65 and the partner under 65 (probably over 60 tho) but it is means tested, the couple are only allowed to earn $80 per week (soon to be $100) after that the partners Super is reduced by 72c for every dollar earned by the couple. My wife is about to get a portion and she is 62.

Or alternatively they could have 100% on the beach digging holes, and the tide will fill them in for the next day.
