1176917 2011-02-11 00:31:00 Kind of wondered how a soccer team that got to the world cut and didn't win anything and were sent home after the first round won this considering that at the CW Games in India the NZ Rugby 7s won gold and the Rugby League World Cup was won by NZ. Guess mediocrity rulze in NZ.. How Valerie Adams won the sports women of the year is beyond me as it has been her worst year ever. There must have been someone more deserving than her like Alison Shanks who won Gold at the 2010 CW Games..I agree with everthing you have said, especially about Alison Shanks. Pato (2463)
1176918 2011-02-11 01:11:00 There are 28 on the panel. So, according to some, they got it wrong. Snorkbox (15764)
1176919 2011-02-11 01:25:00 I am currently undisputed World Champion for a variation of the Foosball game. As a high performance athlete who trains daily on a diet of high performance meat pies and sausage rolls washed down with a beer of choice, I am disgusted that the Halberg awards yet again didn't recognise my winning performance. They will no doubt argue that only six people play my variant of this sport but this is about winning and I am the world champion. Twelvevolts (5457)
1176920 2011-02-11 01:29:00 Athletics great Dick Tayler is resigning from the Halberg Awards' judging panel in protest over the All Whites being awarded the supreme prize .

Tayler, himself a former winner of the supreme award, will hand his notice of resignation to the Halberg Trust today, unhappy that the New Zealand football team beat off all contenders at last night's awards .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . There are 28 judges on the Halberg Awards panel, comprising 10 members of the working media and 18 current or former athletes, coaches and administrators: Philippa Baker Hogan, Hamish Carter, Ron Cheatley, Graeme Crosby, Andy Dalton, Steve Gurney, Rachael Henderson, Debbie Hockley, Jayne Kiely, Danyon Loader, Ron Palenski, Farah Palmer, Ramesh Patel, Anna Rowberry, Mark Sorensen, Mike Stanley, Howie Tamati and Tayler .

1176923 2011-02-11 02:07:00 Just sick of them already. I guess they probably bought the prize like they did their team. rob_on_guitar (4196)
1176924 2011-02-11 03:22:00 Two surprises there:
I fail to see why I didn't win, given that I am undefeated in Formula One, RedBull Air Racing, Chess, Cross Country Skiing, Tournament Golf, Tennis (Grass, Clay and Hard Court), and the Javelin throw at all levels.

However, the most amazing thing is that the All Whites did not jointly take Sportswoman Of The Year.

Perhaps it is like bowls; when trying to draw you must play to the bias.

1176926 2011-02-11 03:53:00 did 'ems folks, did they miss out ?, amateur sports don't stand a show now with all those professional sports.

Halberg was a true amateur sportsperson.

Lurking.
