However my lunch break falls on a time where my Dr accepts 'drop ins' and you need to be there a good 1/2 hour before they open for the after noon to be seen within my lunch break. Pain killers and shoulder movements appear to be working, but yes as said if pain continues I'll definitely pay the money for the treatment. I don't know your work circumstances, but could you swap your lunch break with someone and go earlier or later? Shoulder pain should be checked out especially if it goes on for more than a couple of days. Your doctor could also advise you to take a few days off work, which you may be able to avoid if you have it treated sooner rather than later. |

The ointment you rub on the muscle. You can also get free advice from the chemist. :) AVOID strong anti-inflammatory medications (e.g. Voltaren Emugel or Rheumon Gel) for the first 48 hours as the inflammation process that occurs within the first two days have been shown to be beneficial for healing. Taking paracetamol is fine as its painkiller effect does not interfere significantly with the healing process. Applying local anaesthetic also helps too. Cheers :) |

I always though they were a bit of a joke, so when my Doctor recently recommended using one for tennis elbow I was sceptical, but the pain (couldn't lift a cup of coffee to my mouth without telling God all about it and had to use two hands) got me motivated . So, I made a shaped cooling pad with wet sand in a large zip-lock bag, froze it solid, then when I took it out, I wrapped it in a teatowel and wet the cloth area of skin contact to improve conduction . I used it 2-3 times a day for a couple of weeks with only moderate improvement so I didn't think too much of the idea . However, I repaired our stove on Sunday and when putting it back into a very narrow space, the third finger on my right hand, between the first and second joints, was impaled on the corner of a laminate moulding with the full weight and momentum of the stove . When I got it free there was a large triangular pit right down to the bone . After I finished yelling repeatedly about making love, while hopping on one foot (god knows why) and generally cursing, I remembered the icepack, got it out, froze the finger for about 45 minutes and when I took the pack off, the hole in my finger had filled up and the pain had gone . After that one icing, it didn't swell or bruise, I can move it freely and there is only a minor wound and abrasion at the point of contact . I have to say I am now a convert to icepacks! The wet sand trick beats the "bag of frozen peas' or chilly bin cool-pack idea too, because it is moulded to shape and doesn't just freeze a small local patch, it also cools the blood supply to the point of impact or injury, and it lasts longer before needing re-freezing . An icepack is worth a try . Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 1176173 | 2011-02-08 20:40:00 | Give the ice pack a trial. I was once trying to use a heated wheat bag for a problem when my chiropractor said..'No..use ice'. I used one of those freezer cooler packs (a very slim one), wrapped it in a tea towel. Even ice cubes wrapped up, or a pack of frozen peas would do. It worked for me. Billy,I thought you would have given a 'blessing' for your coffee every morning. |

| 1176174 | 2011-02-09 04:11:00 | The funding is often only for children or those on low incomes/welfare... Government funding is allocated to medical centers based on socio-economic data for the area that it's in. Living in Wellington I was paying ~$60 to go the the doctor in normal hours, now that I live in Whangarei, it's $17.50. |
