1209325 2011-06-14 23:56:00 Hi there, as the HDD on my Panasonic DMR-EH57 DVD recorder is pretty full, I went to burn some of the clips onto DVD but the DVD drive has packed a sad overnight and will no longer recognise either commercial DVD's or blank ones.

I have tried connecting my Panasonic video camera to the recorder to see if I could record back onto a DV tape using a multi-cable so I can then load it onto my PC and burn it that way but I can't get anything to record on the tape.

Before I take it in to see if it can be repaired. I wondered if someone has any other way I can get clips off the HDD and onto a PC. Thanks for any help!

1209326 2011-06-15 00:30:00 If you mean the DVD on the computer, have you installed any cd writing programs like Roxio programs, or something like Daemontools?? Programs like these can stuff it up.

What version of windows is it?

1209328 2011-06-15 03:11:00 Standard tech support question:

Have you turned it off at the wall counted to 20 and turned it back on?

Other than that I don't think these devices are designed to let you get stuff directly off the hard drive except by way of the DVD drive. Read the manual perhaps.

1209329 2011-06-15 03:32:00 Unless you can remove the drive and connect it to a computer? gary67 (56)
1209330 2011-06-15 03:48:00 Hi again, thanks for the comments. I had tried turning the recorder off and back on and it still wouldn't read any DVD's. I've checked the manual and it only refers to recording to the HDD, not from it. Never mind, was worth a try to see if someone had a magic trick to try so guess I'll take it in and see what the drama is. Cheers. Alison (2911)
1209331 2011-06-15 03:49:00 Gary, I had checked on the internet for this idea and no-one seems to have a simple solution to it so hadn't gone any further with it. Thanks anyway. Alison (2911)
1209332 2011-06-15 04:32:00 Alison i believe panasonics and sony whatever use there own file systems so windows will not recognise it anyway, best idea is to take to a shop to get the DVD repaired. My panasonic will read disks but wont burn, nothing important on their luckily. Gobe1 (6290)
