1179041 2011-02-16 22:08:00 This is how this bunch of politicians spent our hard-earned money. Story here (www.3news.co.nz) bk T (215)
1179042 2011-02-16 22:13:00 I think they are really bored sitting in the Beehive, don't know what to do!

Why not send them to do some community work?

"We had tomatoes, we had bok choy, we had cabbages, we had onions, we had carrots. [The produce] went out to the local community," Ms Peterson said.

"The programme was for 26 weeks and finished in July. By the time the reporter turned up last week, it was all gone. And of course with the weather conditions up here, it doesn't make it viable to replant at this time."

1179046 2011-02-16 22:32:00 The questions that immediatley spring to my mind are:

How many of these schemes are there in total?
How many are producing good results?

TV3 have picked three or four projects that clearly have not done very well. Unless we know the percentage of the total number of projects that this represents, we are in no position to pass judgement. It may be that there are 2000 projects, which would make a 0.2% failure rate - which I would have thought would have been quite acceptable. On the other hand, there may only have been 50 projects, which makes 8% failure - still not hugely bad, but worse than the previous example.

The point is that we just don't know. TV3 (so far) have presented a totally unbalanced story - one worthy of complaint to the BSA, I would have thought.

They obviously don't do crop rotation, but I don't know of any popular fruits and vege that likes to grow in a cold condition.....

Yes but replanting takes time. And warm or not there is still the daylight hours to take into account. Plants aren't silly, they know when it's supposed to be go to seed time.
