1177973 2011-02-15 01:12:00 Absolutely.

See my previous comment.

You can't afford to make mistakes on the road.

One mistake and it's all over.

If people learned to drive properly and improved their attitude towards driving, they wouldn't be making mistakes and there wouldn't be people getting killed on the road.

It's not exactly rocket science, and yet year after year, we get the same old dreadful roadtoll and keep reading about the same old accidents happening over and over again. Every other day I'm on the road, I see the same old incompetent and often selfish idiots.

You make some good points. But as human we can and do make mistakes.
But as you say if we have the right mental attitude to driving then those
risks become much much less. It all starts with that thing between your ears.
In my mind driving should start at a much earlier age to develop the skills and the correct mental attitude.

1177979 2011-02-15 06:47:00 I think the judge would have made the right decision appropriate by weighing up all the facts. You guys just pounce on anybody these days. God help them if it was one of your friends or relatives driving. If any of you guys made the laws here nobody would drive just incase they ran over a cat!Views like this make me laugh

Had the driver been either Maori (or any other non-white ethnicity) or a young male (any race) - there would have been jail time for sure.

I seriously hope the stupid ***** runs over the judge the next time she loses control

1177982 2011-02-15 17:44:00 She got off lightly because she's a young blonde woman who bawled her eyes out. Replace her with a bloke, chances are it would have been at least 2 years jail. Oh - and there wouldn't be as much public sympathy from the victims' families.

Perhaps jailtime probably wouldn't be appropriate for her but only a one year ban from driving? Come on, that's pathetic.

I don't want this careless idiot on the road when I'm driving, EVER.

Exactly what I was thinking. You pay for your mistakes and the punishment should be uniform. She didn't intend to kill anyone obviously but jails have had visitors before that didn't intend to kill anyone but their actions caused a death - jail should have been a minimum.

I personally would have expected to go to jail if that was me. My circumstances, married on single income with 4 children, the hardship as a family we would go through is NOTHING compared to those left behind of the victims.

The guy that accidentally shot and killed that woman brushing her teeth, showed remorse, pleaded guilty and accepted jail as the only outcome. I believe this incident is far worse than the shooting incident.
