1208998 2011-06-13 20:54:00 Standard GST rate that you would have to pay when buying something in NZ so I don't see a problem with that being added to imports.

thats right..GST...but then i am paying double aren't I?? one tax for US n one for NZ..... :(

there goes my simple dream again...

1208999 2011-06-13 20:56:00 No you won't be paying US GST as it's going offshore, or at least you shouldn't be gary67 (56)

1209001 2011-06-13 22:33:00 I think major branded vendors/suppliers price fix for global online sales, meaning overall savings might be minimal, unless if you have a letter of credit from a bank. I found this out when trying to purchase a camera. Though can get a variety of PC's, but unless if a NZ major seller (e.g. Dick Smiths, Telecom, etc), no real savings, unless you get refurbished, or some unknown brand. Plus some have a rebate system like Tiger Direct (www.tigerdirect.com/), and out of state state taxes - even for Amazon which was implemented recently. kahawai chaser (3545)
1209002 2011-06-14 01:15:00 I have bought used laptops from the USA when lappies were pricey here (early 2000s), I have been taxed at the former 12.5% incl on the postal. Released to me after I paid them.

Power supply etc .. no issues. You might want to replace that last cord or simply get a travel adaptor.

1209003 2011-06-14 01:40:00 Yep - 15%.

Make sure the power adapter has a detachable IEC lead, and you can pick one with a NZ end up for $10 or $15.

I think all of the notebook power adapters adapters I've seen in the last few years have been 110v - 240v, so no issues with voltages.

normally, even with the 15%, it will be noticeably cheaper, but the most important thing to consider is the warranty.

If you have to send it overseas, or if you have no warranty at all, forget it.

1209004 2011-06-14 05:32:00 Bought a netbook overseas and it had international warranty. Price was $240 cheaper than the samething in New Zealand. I got a tennis racket from ebay for $200 NZD and I had no tax. If the 15% of the item is less than $60, than you dont need to pay tax. sahilcc7 (15483)
