So, I have an older hp pavillian 5300 and wanted to start fresh with Windows xp again. During installation my laptop completely powered off unexpectedly. I knew the reason was because it over heated and so I opened it up and cleaned an unbelievable amount of dust out of it so the fans would actually spin again, (not joking) and when I powered it back up I have no monitor. I took it apart again and double checked that the power for the monitor was connected and that it was properly grounded and still nothing. I believe it would be because the drivers were uninstalled and didn't get to be reinstalled but now it doesn't have any visual what so ever so......how do I do anything? |

You dont need video drivers to install windows. It'll install basic drivers. Till you install the right ones. Does the computer itself turn on and beep once (or more), (if its got a speaker in the case)?? |

Try booting a Linux CD or any other bootable disc and see if you get anything on the screen |

I saw that everything uninstalled and before it reinstalled it powered off. It does power on but absolutely no sounds except for the fans working. |

Gary, the disk drive doesn't want to even open without the old paperclip. |

Check the ram -Try a different slot. I had the problem, only that the keyboard lights were lit. One of my ram sticks wouldn't work in one of the slots so just changed the slot. |
