1210659 2011-06-20 00:07:00 Hey guys, I've been browsing this forum a lot recently and have been helped with some questions I've had. So, I've decided to join this lovely community with some more questions!

Anyway, I'm currently going through the process of planning a gaming PC build. I'm doing it peice by peice week by week. I'm looking at spending around $2,000 all up. My question is, what parts should I be looking at? And also, where should I look at sourcing these parts from? I've been looking the computer lounge a lot recently.

Any tips, advise would be very much appreciated! :thanks

1210660 2011-06-20 00:41:00 I guess the first question is whether you like Intel or AMD? Gobe1 (6290)
1210661 2011-06-20 00:45:00 What parts? What do you want as an end result? Do you prefer AMD to Intel or vice versa?

What sort of gaming? High-end FPSs? Mid range? Solitaire?

$2000 for what? The entire thing inc monitor, KB, mouse? Or just the box?
Including O/S or without?

Reputable shops:
Computer Lounge
Playtech
Ascent

Take a look at some of their gaming systems if you don't know where to start.

My recommendations for brands:

Motherboard - Asus or Gigabyte
GPU - ASUS or Gigabyte
HDD - Seagate or Western Digital
Optical drive - Liteon, ASUS, Sony
PSU - Corsair or Enermax
Case - whatever takes your fancy but NO bundled PSUs
RAM - too many to list

1210662 2011-06-20 01:16:00 If a gaming PC, i would go for the Intel Sandy Bridge platform over AMD, especially with a $2k budget. SolMiester (139)
1210663 2011-06-20 01:19:00 Thanks for the response. I really should have pointed out that I have a 22" screen, gaming mouse and Keyboard and I really am not fussed with the brands so long as the end result is good. I'm looking at playing graphic intensive games. I understand that $2000 is on the light side for building a gaming PC but hoping to get the best I can from it.

EDIT: Also, Without the OS.

Which is why brands matter.
You want it to last without dying on you?
Or you don't care if it all turns to **** in 5 minutes?

1210665 2011-06-20 01:32:00 Sorry, I feel I should have said that differently. I mean I'm not fussed with Intel, AMD, nVidia or ATi. I have seen the Sandy bridge CPU's and by the sounds of it, I may be headed down that route. HighLatency (16434)
1210666 2011-06-20 01:37:00 A quick build for you... SolMiester (139)
1210667 2011-06-20 01:48:00 That looks good, although I would drop the OS. Also, is there much difference in performance from the Sandy Bridge 2500 and the 2500k? HighLatency (16434)
1210668 2011-06-20 01:54:00 Looks like the K can be overclocked, the 2500 can't be overclocked Speedy Gonzales (78)
