1210605 2011-06-19 23:20:00 Was in DS yesterday advising a guy on some computer parts etc. He bought a laptop and the guy was very persistent in trying to convince me that Nortons was vastly improved. Do they end up getting commission when people pay after the free subscription. I know everyone here totally dislikes it but has it improved? mikebartnz (21)

No but they do when they convince you to buy the boxed version.

They allways say the 'new version' is improved. They said that about 360
360 was a POS, especially on slower PC's
I guess it cant get any worse :badpc:

This is a company that couldnt be trusted with credit card details & was fined for this in the US.

1210608 2011-06-20 00:26:00 To be fair, Norton's has improved over the last year or so. After 2003 it went downhill but it's no longer a system draining dog.

Having said that, I'm quite happy with Microsoft Security Essentials.

1210609 2011-06-20 05:01:00 ha, the other day I remover Norton antivirus and a stopped a "few" start up programs on my mates laptop. Made a noticeable difference in how fast it booted. Fifthdawn (9467)
1210610 2011-06-20 05:07:00 It certainly uses far less system resources than it used to in older versions., which is a nice improvement. Shame it's still not really very effective as an antivirus. inphinity (7274)
1210611 2011-06-20 22:16:00 They are now less hungry on resources but I still tell people to bin them and save money! linw (53)
1210612 2011-06-20 22:30:00 I think they get around 0.5% commission if my memory serves me correctly, but it adds up real quickly if you convince one person each day to buy the AV. Chilling_Silence (9)
