1180326 2011-02-21 20:36:00 We i was installing a not so legitimate softwares last night on my home PC.... when all of a sudden BAM!!! microsoft security essentials was gone! replaced by AviraAV telling me i was seriously infected and still scanning pop ups all over the place, wicked. Format, start again. :lol:

My bad.:groan:

I only formatted as it was a new install any way, as i had brought a new case and hard drives. (nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure)

Isnt Avira a real AV?, i guess this was a imitation

Yes Avira is a legitimate anti-virus program.
The other day where I was working they had a website pop up from antiviravailable.com which showed a page that looked like a genuine Windows type of virus scan reporting several infections. It is not a wonder some get sucked in and then install the crap.

Actually Avira is the company, and they produce AntiVir which is their AV program.

The fake AV is called "AntiVira Av" and can be seen in the screenshots here: www.bleepingcomputer.com
