1179970 2011-02-20 20:24:00 I am currently the treasurer of a non profit kennel club with about 350 members. I am looking for a software program that would be suited for this type of use. It would need information for tracking members, trainees, dog shows, awards, and other areas involved with kennel club training. Does anyone have any suggestions. We are using Quicken right now, which really does not provide the needs I have. All help is appreciated.
Regards,
Brenda

1179971 2011-02-20 20:40:00 Excel spreadsheet perhaps. Make your own or modify a template. Snorkbox (15764)
1179972 2011-02-20 20:55:00 Microsoft Access, this way you can could track stuff by members name, name of the dog, place of dog show, description of award (Like mutt of the day, stupidest looking hound), by date by anything in fact. prefect (6291)

1179974 2011-02-20 21:03:00 Access is great but I thought it might be overkill and also requires someone to code up the app which may not be cheap. Snorkbox (15764)
1179975 2011-02-20 21:08:00 Also agree with the Access - great tool.

It would require a certain amount of setting up though - but based on your short description it wouldn't take a competent person much time at all.

1179976 2011-02-20 21:13:00 Access is great but I thought it might be overkill and also requires someone to code up the app which may not be cheap. That's a possibility, depending on how complex their needs are - judging by the OP's description, what they require isn't likely to need any custom code - but they definitely need some kind of relational database. Access certainly isn't overkill, although you're right that it does have an awful lot more features than they need.

Excel can be shoehorned into this task, with a lot of swearing and frustration, but it's not really the right tool.

1179977 2011-02-20 21:26:00 Excel is for numbers mainly, trying to use it for a database can end in tears prefect (6291)
1179978 2011-02-20 21:28:00 Thanks for the input - this program would also require accounting functions too, chart of accounts, check registry, P & L statement, monthly balance sheets, etc. I guess I got ahead of myself.
Thanks,

1179979 2011-02-20 21:32:00 Hmmmm. So the amount of custom coding ( for Access ) just increased somewhat I think.

It can be done of course but I'm unsure of what it would actually cost unless I had the full specifications.
