1179417 2011-02-18 01:11:00 Hi all
I heard of electronic devices you can install to the switchboard which turn off the line(cicuit) where the you place the "standby" appliances. There are approx.a doz. of those excluding phones which run just about 24/7.
I know it'z laziness though such a switch, depending on the price, might be an option.Power price is going up again next month which triggers the brain somewhat.
Has anyone of you any experience or heard of it?
Thanks

Why not just turn the switch off?

1179420 2011-02-18 02:54:00 Probably cost you more than you'd save ... keep fit ... throw the switch for daily exercise ... :D SP8's (9836)
1179421 2011-02-18 03:21:00 I come across this web site (www2.enistic.com)which is aimed at large corporates and would be an overkill for a house. It was interesting to see what can be done if you have the money. It talks about monitoring and turning off appliances.

There are smart meters but these appear to monitor power usage.

Not to sure about that.
A little electronic devise set on a circuit(where you have all the standby's) should not be such a huge thing. Sure the price has to be in some sort of relation to the power savings. Should be a standard detail of any subboard like rcd for wet rooms.

and here (www.byebyestandby.com) you can calculate/see what a few stanby appliances use over a year.

1179426 2011-02-18 21:41:00 This is a really thoughtless attitude. If everybody saved power the companies profits would fall and then they'd have to put the price up to compensate. Honestly you got to stop thinking of just yourself and look at the big picture :) Clod (7853)
