| 1179393 | 2011-02-17 23:57:00 | It is not only milk but a lot of food items produced in New Zealand are overpriced in the local market. Prices appear to be dependant on what they are able to get from the export market. I buy milk at the asking price because I see milk as a staple item. I hardly ever buy cheese or fish because it is far too over priced. I remember working on a hill country farm where we had a house cow. It was my job to hand milk it. Maybe this is a solution. |

| 1179394 | 2011-02-18 00:06:00 | Wonder how many of those plastic 1 and 2 liter milk containers are shipped to the likes of the UK and Europe?? Non I suspect so why are we paying such a high price?? It seems we have excepted this mentality in NZ that we should always pay the same price for exported products as the do in places like Europe even after they pay shipping etc and we don't.. | paulw (1826) | ||

| 1179396 | 2011-02-18 00:25:00 | Do they pay export prices for petrol in Saudi Arabia? Malaysia and Brunei have their own oils ... which is partly why the Brunei Sultan is so well off :D (and tax free for locals) Malaysia's Petronas (twin) Towers .. is named after Petronsa. Petronas (en.wikipedia.org) is a oil company name. I got a ride between Brunei and East Malaysia. The driver stopped at the local (Shell) petrol station. It was like 4 or 8c a litre. NZD. I think the Brunese currency is pegged to the Singpore Dollar whcih is approx. the same to the NZD. The Malaysian Ringitt is half to the NZD. |

| 1179397 | 2011-02-18 02:10:00 | It was like 4 or 8c a litre . NZD . So our milk should be about 10c a litre . Petrol has gone up to $2 . 02 a litre . Milk still costs more . Why? It comes out the cow . Petrol has to be made . |
