1180460 2011-02-22 03:06:00 News crews have quite a lot of leeway when it comes to filming people on the street. they dont have to ask for permission Gobe1 (6290)
1180461 2011-02-22 03:07:00 This is what i call breaking news and i am very interested in what is going on down there. They have cameras on the scene minutes after the event, besides dust...

There are however standards of what you film, even if it is live. Damaged building are one thing and is public, but filming people who are in distress is something different, and is private. Just my opinion, but others I have spoken to have also found the pictures disturbing.

You are probably right on that. Although it does come down to what is reasonable and respectful for those being filmed. When I saw the badly injured person telling cameramen to stop filming, that is not on.
I haven't seen that sort of coverage on TVNZ. There has been loss of life, so they should be very careful on what they are filming in respect for people who have lost loved ones.

1180463 2011-02-22 03:11:00 What did you expect? No time to edit the videos.

Well everything wasn't live - it was all delayed, I am more annoyed at the fact that they were specifically focusing on a single place, getting people's full names up there, filming a screaming injured woman who asked not to be filmed.

Deliberately filming the screaming of the trapped and pointing it out. There is no need to deliberately film the suffering of others to sensationalize something and get hits.

Yes, there are injured people on TV every day, but can we have some decency in the middle of it all?

Mentioning the same woman's name who was rescued from the top of that building 30+ times after she was rescued, what is the point of that?

Have some dignity TV3.

1180466 2011-02-22 03:27:00 At least relatives know that person is alive.
I have a panicked friend can't find out about her brother, he was downtown.
Told her cellphone and landline coverage is crap at present, not to panic, but I think she'd be relieved to see him on TV even if injured. Means he's not dead.

1180469 2011-02-22 03:40:00 Everyone needs to stay off the phones, and only text, as the phone lines are overloaded. There could be people trapped in buildings who are trying to phone out. robbyp (2751)
