1180280 2011-02-21 09:15:00 Really? "I strongly think you are mistaken" would've been sufficient. Alas, you've just proved that qazwsxokmijn was right. The correct word is "There", not "Their", as in "Their car is over there".
There was also a terrible flaw in his logic in his post I quoted. It wasn't only the apostrophe to indicate the plural of Maori.

If the Maori were indeed the first people of NZ then they ARE indigenous people of NZ. Their origin of the Pacific Islands is irrelevant in that context.

His logic is flawed and frankly idiotic as by it, there is no such thing as indigenous unless people sprout from the very ground, as opposed to migrating to virgin lands.

1180281 2011-02-21 18:01:00 Play nice, you don't need to go attacking the other PF1'ers...

Key didn't specially "know" that photo was been taken.

SSDD, it's Hone we're talking about, we know his true colors.

The Maoris still want to be on an equal playing field, saying "We're not the inferior little guy" but still demand special treatment in areas like this. Do some research on Ka Hikitea the lot of you.

1180282 2011-02-21 18:27:00 The definition of the word “Indigenous” has been manipulated over the years to suit certain agendas .

When I was at school, we were taught that there were only two Indigenous Races in the world which were the Australian Aborigines and the American Red Indians .

Now days it seems the definition is along the same lines of “how much Maori blood do you need to be considered Maori?” Well the Maori Affairs Amendment Act 1974 says a drop is sufficient for you to qualify, but prior to that you had to be better than half-caste .

Given that there isn’t one full blooded Maori alive, and given the requirements to be considered Maori, I guess the majority of 2nd generation New Zealanders could call themselves Maori .

Fortunately, the vast majority of those entitled to call themselves Maori are quite happy being New Zealanders, but there are the activists, mostly with European Surnames, that are causing the problems .

The separatist policies of Labour and National are ruining the Country, so which party will stop that?

Well that’s the point Chill.

The Maoris are on a level playing field and if there is a slope it is in their favour.

Can you name anything that a Pakeha is entitled to that a Maori isn’t?

On the other hand…………………………..

1180284 2011-02-21 19:15:00 When you start measuring Maori bloodlines in multiple fractions, you have to ask "Can they really call themselves Maori when they're only 1/64th pureblood Maori?" . No, really .

That's a bit like on St Paddy's day when 99 . 9% of Americans claim to be Irish

1180285 2011-02-21 19:18:00 But if we all agree that Evolution is the way we apparently came into being, and natural selection/survival of the fittest was the model life has followed of the past 'millions of years' then why on earth are people kicking up such a fuss? This should've been survival of the fittest - as in sorry but your stupid wooden clubs != cannons and muskets.

Just look back in the history books for nearly every single civilization that has ever been recorded. It is full of conquest, war, invasion, grief, the works. People have always conquered or been conquered since the dawn of man. Nothing changes - nothing new - move along and quit your whining, just be glad we didn't wipe out your entire race like in other proper wars.

Vae victis. That's life. Whining does not solve anything, nor does begging give any honour to an honourable warrior race...

Fault always lies in the same place: with him weak enough to lay blame

I had a blood transfusion a few years ago during a major operation (quite a lot of blood, IIRC). There's a reasonable chance to expect there was a Maori (or part Maori) donor, so does that mean I can now claim Tangata Whenua (since it does not appear to require proof), and get my share of $$ off the rest of you oppressive whiteys? :p

Perhaps if that argument holds water, we all need to have blood transfusions from Maori donors, and then we would all get handouts...
