1180712 2011-02-23 21:30:00 Please have translators and common-phrase books available .

You mean for us to have proper English translators and common English phrase books for the Americans I guess SJ?

We won't have a problem because we are fluent in Ameringlish - we are flooded with it 24 hours a day!

It is so all pervasive that most Kiwis refer to 11/9 as 9/11!

1180713 2011-02-23 22:05:00 Just shows to go ya - that we are indeed a giant village.

I've been listening to some of the commentary from Kiwis and there was one woman whom I SWEAR was speaking Swahili! My wife just tried to read her lips and they weren't even moving, yet words were coming out of her.

She (my wife) finally asked me when the woman was done talking and said: 'What did she say?" I had no idea either.

In all good thoughts from my wife and me and with our greatest concerns, we are as diverse as we are alike. That's nice.

1180714 2011-02-23 22:31:00 Just proves my point SJ. We live in a world dominated by American media so we are constantly exposed to its weirdness. On the other hand, America is isolated from the rest of the world (according to family members who have lived there, and other sources) so Americans struggle when they come face to face with other languages like English.

Never mind SJ, we will look after your fellow countrymen, as we did when lots of them came here during WW11. Once again, we will be grateful for any help that American people can provide in our current battle.

Incidentally, they may be rescuing some of their own. There is troubling news that some of the support staff for the Antarctic programme are not accounted for. They are employees of the NSF, which means they are probably Americans (although NSF may have employed some Kiwis).

. . . America is isolated from the rest of the world (according to family members who have lived there, and other sources) so Americans struggle when they come face to face with other languages like English .

So true . I know - from my experience living there .
