1179980 2011-02-20 21:50:00 Hmmmm. So the amount of custom coding ( for Access ) just increased somewhat I think.

It can be done of course but I'm unsure of what it would actually cost unless I had the full specifications.Still no need for custom coding (yet - although if their requirements keep changing...), but they are starting to get into slightly more complex territory, and unless they have some in-house Access skills, they'll be needing to pay someone to set all this up.

1179981 2011-02-20 23:31:00 Thanks Snorkbox - I guess I just thought that there would already be an existing program specialized to the kennel club business which would help to simplify the transition from what I currently using. So far through searches I haven't found anything. Perhaps I will contact American Kennel Club directly and ask them.
Thank you everyone. I will keep looking.

1179983 2011-02-20 23:53:00 Thanks for the input - this program would also require accounting functions too, chart of accounts, check registry, P & L statement, monthly balance sheets, etc. I guess I got ahead of myself.
Thanks,

Bit of U.S. talk here, lol.

1179984 2011-02-21 00:02:00 Excel makes a great DB so long as you don't want to get too complicated.
Otherwise Access.

1179985 2011-02-21 00:04:00 I have used quicken for a number of years for both business and personal. It is an ideal programme for keeping track of financial transactions. Access would be ideal for keeping members details. You can learn how to use the programme from a manual or on-line tutorials if you have the time. Why not use a calender programme for events. Advantage of cashbook other than its low cost is its made by New Zealanders for New Zealanders for business in New Zealand
Its based on MS Access any way, I use it. For example if someone rings me about a job I did 10 years ago he ( dont do shes) only has to give me one fact to search it down like rego of the vehicle, customer name, make, model street or area it broke down, what broke on it last time. I have amazed some of my customers with how quickly I can track down a job. They ring and say you know that crane you fixed a few months ago ( they always say that) well its playing up again. Yes squire that was the crane with with a leaking stabilizer leg which we put a new seal in 2 years 2 months and 16 days ago on the right hand side and the one that is leaking is on the other side of the right hand one.

1179987 2011-02-21 00:45:00 Maybe Google Apps? Allows collaboration with their online apps (docs, calendar, Gmail, Picassa, etc) but also business version for a cost. kahawai chaser (3545)
1179988 2011-02-21 00:52:00 I use Access for the database I maintain for the club I'm associated with. I don't have any special skills. I find it easy to set up, easy to query and does all that I need. For me it is more flexible than Excel.

In addition, it is easy to convert it to an Excel spreadsheet for other club members who need basic club info.

What is this custom coding you speak of Mr Snork
